Available for pre-order now: At the Heart of the Deep: A Falling in Deep Collection Novella
Excited as I am to be the first to review At the Heart of the Deep: A Falling in Deep Collection Novella by Carrie L. Wells, I can double that enthusiasm as I know the release date of my own Falling In Deep novella is that much closer. But more about that later...
This novella (less than 200 pages) is a quick read that leads to the second book in her series of Orotavan Mermaids which should release later this year. The story finds us following two narrators, Anya, an independent mermaid, and her human love, Luke McCallister, an oceanographer, research a bizarre occurrence in the Atlantic Ocean.
Anya and her friends share typical girly banter, but more than that we see her go against the wishes of her father and her tribe to follow her emotional and physical drive to Luke, a human she is told to avoid. However, Luke seems just as infatuated with her, and more than that, he needs her. When she realizes she can save him, it is just too much to avoid, and we find her diving in (pun intended of course).
The story ends quickly, but remains open for future plot lines to develop. Some will ultimately enjoy the cliff hanging end, while others may wish for a bit more of a conclusion. Regardless, I'm waiting eagerly to see where the two end up next.
